Hand & Hard Surface Hygiene
While methods to clean and sanitize surfaces and equipment in the healthcare environment vary, the need to measure the effectiveness of cleaning practices is universal. Contaminated surfaces and equipment can quickly lead to microbial contamination, and ultimately, the infection of patients or personnel.
Hand and hard surface disinfectants are an essential part of reducing and preventing infection/contamination caused by microorganisms.
In order to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 virus Health Canada and the World Health Organization have recommended, among other things, the following:
- encouraging frequent hand hygiene in the workplace
- ethanol based products have proven to be effective against viruses in hand disinfection in 30 seconds
(Soft Hands AB and Secure) - cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces such as door handles, telephones etc. to reduce the risk of cross contamination. (EC Oxy Plus and Clean Start Disinfectant)
Most food processing facilities will have procedures in place to minimize the risk of cross contamination including the use of ready to use sanitizers like the products from Epsilon Chemicals Ltd. outlined above.
